I have exciting news. Painted On My Heart has won two Elit awards. It’s taken home the Gold in the LGBT Fiction category as well as Gold in the Romance category. We understand no gay fiction book has ever taken home the Gold in the Romance category. Yay!!
Thank you so much to the Elit Awards and Jenkins Group. Also thank YOU. This wouldn’t have happened without your unwavering support. Painted, more than any other book we’ve written, took on a life of its own. Digging in, learning what we learned, meeting the men and women we did, made Painted a statement piece for us. The stories we heard still stick in the heart, the friends we’ve made – I’ll cherish them all forever.
Also important, and the main reason for our post, Painted On My Heart, along with the complete collection of our books is part of Keith Milano Memorial May Fundraiser to support Suicide Prevention.
Supporting this cause was an easy decision. These are the stats listed on the CDC’s website:
“LGBTQ youth are also at increased risk for suicidal thoughts and behaviors, suicide attempts, and suicide. A nationally representative study of adolescents in grades 7–12 found that lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth were more than twice as likely to have attempted suicide as their heterosexual peers.3 More studies are needed to better understand the risks for suicide among transgender youth. However, one study with 55 transgender youth found that about 25% reported suicide attempts.4”
We have to help make a difference. These kids need our help.
